Casting 'David'

After finding zero success in trying to contact Actors directly asking if they would be interested in taking part within our production. I took advice from Janice and Hutch by posting an ad on NORTH EAST THEATRE PRACTITIONERS (shown below).

I was pleasantly surprised by the instant response from two actors, both of which called David ironically. The first response was by David Parker a local theatre actor form newcastle.

He sent me a monologue he had done on stage a few years prior. He seemed very talented and was also a full commercial drone pilot and said he would be willing to offer his services for free. Which was definitely an incentive.
The next actor was named David Ball, a full time musician, who had done a bit of theatre acting but no short films.

Originally I was leaning towards Parker, since he seemed more experienced and who could pass up free drone work? Well after further discussion with the actors,  I was keen on our David having little to no facial hair, as in simple terms, it didn't make sense to me for a robot to have a beard.
Unfortunately Parker had a previous commitment which called for him to be rough and hairy. So he was unable to shave, this was the nail in the coffin but David Ball sent me a video of him practising some of the lines and his passion really impressed me (shown below).

Ball had an innocence to him, which I really felt would help the audience connect with him from the outset and do a lot of the work for us.
This made me confident to go with David Ball and after meeting with him I couldn't be more happy with the choice.
