Poster Designs

I had always had a strong idea of what the poster for 'THE CELL' would be. I had visioned a side silhouette of a mans face and then an image within the silhouette. I hoped this would play on the fact that this film has a strong relationship with the mind and what it means to be human, so by having the main focus of poster be what lies within his head seemed appropriate as this is the main theme of our film.
However I struggled with decided which image to have on the poster, I played around with a few options. They're listed below:

For this first design, I tried something which I felt was quite traditional. I really love the picture of David, I feel it captures his mood and overall is just a visually good looking photograph, however as I said at the beginning, I feel its quite traditional in the sense of it just being our main actors face. I also feel that even though I like the image, it doesn't really give a sense of what our film will be and all good posters should do this.

Next, I went with quite an experimental design. I thought that a simplistic approach may be for the best, as I always appreciate posters with a simple aesthetic. However I feel this poster does very little to let an audience know what the film is about, if anything it may just confuse our audiences even further.

Finally, I tried a more subtle image with David working out within his Cell. I really like this concept and feel it succeeds where the previous designs didn't. With only one image is it hard to sum up the film, especially one as complicated as ours, but this image tells a lot more than it may appear. I feel with the jumpsuit and his serial number on display, it communicates to the audience that this is a prison film, which I don't think the other designs get across. I also think that by showing him doing push ups, it lets the audience know that he has been stuck in this cell for a long period of time and that he is not going to roll over and accept that. I definitely feel this is the strongest poster and the one I would use to promote the film.
