Production WEEK 2

This week, we were back to work in the cell. This shoot was a lot more fluid than the last, we found a groove and stuck to it. We started with some chip stuff, I really enjoy how we work as a crew, I can leave Glenn and Jacob to set up and get shots ready while, Me and David talk over the scene and his motivations.

One of the things that I believe really helped the flow of this scene, is that me and David were able to run it a few times and get the dialogue to a point where it had a really nice flow. We also improvised sections of the scene and kept what worked to home the script to a point where it was really working.

The point where David shouts for Chip to "SHUT THE FUCK UP" was added in the moment, but the additional "I cannot comply" from chip was added by me in the moment and me and Mikey knew instantly it really worked. I'm hoping with an audience that moment really hits.

Since this was a fairly long scene with David and chip, the day mostly consisted of taking out walls and getting various angles for the edit. Including a Chip Cam, an angle form the perspective of Chip, I was keen to get multiple angles from various different cameras that existed within the actual set to try and give that sense of David being watched and that even though he was alone in his environment, there was clearly people that existed outside of that Cell.

The image above and to the left you can see the Chip Cam, we were using a simple bulb that Glenn created to give that glow on Davids face when he pushes his face into the camera. I wasn't sure about it at first but when seeing it on Camera it gave a really nice effect. You can also see above Glenn setting up the Magic arm for the P2, for our security camera which I have mentioned in our previous shoot. This piece of kit was recommended to me by Lee when I told him about the type of shots we were after. It works really well and I'm glad he mentioned it.

After we had completed this scene, we moved onto some vent stuff. I believe we got a few quick shots of David searching his cell, for any week points, one thing I tried to do was that when David is searching under his bed shown in the image below, was reference the vent behind him, so that even though the character hadn't discovered it yet, the audience already had a hint to where the action was going to end up.

Overall, I was really happy with how this shoot went, like I said I feel we have found our groove as a team and hope this keeps up with our future shoots. I couldn't be more pleased with our actor David, not only is he a god actor, he is a lovely human being and everyone on the crew has got on with him really well. He fits in as just another member of the team which is perfect for us. He is always willing to lend a hand!
Next week, we will be shooting some more substantial scenes, like Davids introduction to Hannah and his attempted escape which I am really looking forward to.
